COMING IN SUMMER 2021
Whitewater Adventures and MORE!We are going to head back up to West Virginia and hit the New River this time!
Are you ready for some serious adventures? We are going to hit some Class IV and V rapids this time! We will also do some rappelling and rock climbing! Whitewater rafting: There is no river trip like The Lower New River Gorge. This ancient river is a milestone for East Coast paddlers. Calm pools, perfect for swimming, form between rapids, house-sized boulders line the river and scenery abounds! Often called “The Grand Canyon of the East”. On this section, the New River begins to narrow and simultaneously drop in elevation, and big water rapids form. Local boaters call this river section, where the water charges through deep and spectacular bends beneath ancient sandstone cliffs, “The Gorge”. This is an 8 - 13 mile paddle (water depending). Lunch is included on the trip. This is a 6-7 hour paddle! How about a mud obstacle course? At ACE we know how to have fun in the mud! When you take on our course expect to: army crawl, climb up steep slopes, run through tires, go over moving bridges, and get your whole team to the finish line together. You and your team will have to work together to get through our brand new elements. And if that isn't enough, we'll spend half a day at the super cool "water park". That’s plenty of time to zip, blob, and slide your way around the park! Soak up the sun at the beach or patio, grab a pizza from Woody’s and a slushie from the slushie stand, then check out all the inflatable toys at the waterpark! But we aren't done yet! Rappelling: An evening rappel is the best introduction to the experience of stepping backward off a cliff and gracefully sliding down a rope to the base of a cliff line. Finish your day with a boost of adrenaline with the fast adventure on ACE property at our private climbing areas. We will also go and tour a coal mine. At the Exhibition Coal Mine, we will ride through the dark passages of a vintage coal mine. The guides are veteran miners and provide firsthand accounts of the daily responsibilities and travail of past and present day miners. Guests board a comfortable coal mine “man trip”. As the trip begins, guides give general information about the Mine and the history of coal mining in our region. The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine is a “drift mine” and the track goes 1500 feet up and around various mined out areas. Stops are made at these areas and the veteran guides give in-depth information on the mining methods and equipment seen. The underground tour last approximately 35 minutes. Visitors are asked to bring a jacket because the temperature is always 58 degrees inside the Mine. In addition to the Mine, one can tour the period coal camp buildings situated throughout the grounds. Lovingly restored, the Coal Company House, Superintendent’s Home, Pemberton Coal Camp Church, and the Helen Coal Camp School, give visitors a true representation of early 20th century coal camp life. And if that isn't enough, how about we check out one of the tallest waterfalls in West Virginia! Cathedral Falls is a beautiful 60+ foot waterfall on Cane Branch. It cascades down a narrow canyon and lands right beside US Rt 60. This creek begins on Gauley Mountain and makes a short but exciting trip to the New River. It actually drops nearly 100 feet over a series of Upper Nuttall sandstone ledges, but the final 60 feet of drops are the ones you can see from the roadside park. Have we enticed you yet? Check out the details below: Did I mention that we will be staying in bunkhouses instead of tents this time? This is going to be a super exciting, jammed pack, fun filled long weekend - don't wait too long to sign up! When: July 2021 Who: Scouts 12 and older Cost: $325 (payment plans available) Adults needed to drive and will only be charged for the activities you choose to do. |
