Intro to Backpacking Weekend
When: May 17 - 19, 2024
Who: Scouts 12 and older Where: Sky Meadows State Park Cost: $50 Min: 6 Max 12 This particular trip is a true BEGINNER hike - We will have to hike about 1 mile from the parking lot to the campsite. There will be some elevation change, but nothing crazy. We will set up camp and get a good night's sleep. Then on Saturday, we will take our day pack only and hike around the park. We will do a little bit of hiking on the Appalachian Trail, too! We will return to camp on Saturday, cook dinner, enjoy a campfire and then hike back out on Sunday.
We have hiked here before and with the girls' input, we will determine which hike we will do on Saturday. Some are more challenging than others. Good sturdy hiking boots are recommended, but not a deal breaker. Learn true self-reliance, as you travel like a turtle, carrying everything you need on your back. All backpackers receive pre-trip training and support. Open to Cadettes (12 and older), Seniors, and Ambassadors. Meeting. We will have a pre meeting to loan out equipment and discuss all aspects of backpacking. Cost. $50 per person includes:
