Blacksmithing
*** Registration closed ***
Come and learn how to blacksmith. This is a HANDS on event - not a watch event! You'll make your very own, one of a kind creation. You might make a key chain, a bracelet, a ring or a hook. Each blacksmith will teach you how to make one of the above, or something else. The Tidewater Blacksmith Guild will be working with us and providing the instruction. This event is for 12 and older due to the 1300+ degree forges that require maturity and the ability to pay attention. NO TAGALONGS whatsoever! Girl must wear jeans - NO LEGGINGS - because leggings will melt if a spark lands on them. Closed toed shoes are also a must and long hair must be pulled up and out of the way. Dress for the weather as WE WILL BE OUTSIDE. This means coats, hats or gloves, if needed. There will be 2 sessions - a morning session, lunch, then an afternoon session. You will be doing another craft inside during your "off session" from blacksmithing. Jewelry making or paper crafting or both. We have a few openings for adult chaperones who would like to stay and enjoy lunch with us. When: Saturday Dec 14, 2019 9:00 am - 1:00pm Where: Cabin behind the Portsmouth Moose Lodge at 1400 George Washington Hwy, Chesapeake, VA 23323 Who: Scouts 12 and older Cost: $20 (includes lunch) |

As we said, the girls will be handling, with one on one supervision, all aspects of forging. Safety glasses and gloves will be provided.
The Smiths will be right beside them to lend a hand and give guidance. This has been such a well received event, we were asked to do it again as soon as it was over. |
